ABOUT ACS

The genesis of Albuquerque Chamber Soloists came about originally as a project of The June Music Festival, at 66 years of age, one of the most enduring chamber music festivals in the country. The June Music Festival, together with the University of New Mexico Division of Continuing Education, co-sponsored the inaugural series of Albuquerque Chamber Soloists. This collaboration continued through the 1996-1997 season, at which time the series moved to the sponsorship of the University of New Mexico Music Department to create the Lillian Dolde Memorial Music Scholarship. This scholarship dispenses funds to students in the area of Performance on a continuing basis. Albuquerque Chamber Soloists was subsequently granted 501(c)3 non-profit status, and incorporated as an independent organization.

A vital part of the mission of Albuquerque Chamber Soloists is to utilize the talents of outstanding New Mexico musicians, many of whom are members of New Mexico’s leading orchestras and academic institutions. Albuquerque Chamber Soloists fosters unique programmatic adventures, often incorporating rare and bold programming with the time-honored masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire. For example, we have merged music with dance, poetry, literature, art, drama and computer-created works.

Albuquerque Chamber Soloists has the reputation of encouraging close relationships between performers and audience, in a further collaborative interaction that reflects the profound and intimate nature of chamber music itself. We continue to look for fresh ways to view chamber music and to explore wider musical horizons.
